Porto Inglês, Jan 11 (Inforpress) – The municipal market in the village of Calheta will start operating in the course of 2021, with several features, in order to respond to an old demand from the population, as well as from the fishermen and fishmongers from that location.
The City Hall of Maio placed in its activity plan for this year, the realization of this project that is part of the partnership with the European Union, which financed the rehabilitation of the referred space, as well as the training of fishmongers in the transformation and fish conservation, so the market will welcome both fish sellers and other products.
The City Hall informs that the central government, in turn, is financing the installation of an ice-making machine in that space using photovoltaic energy, with a view to reducing the cost of production and, therefore, making this product available to a affordable price for fishermen, fishmongers and all who need this product for their economic activities and beyond.
Still in the list of investment in the fisheries sector, the City Hall plans to rehabilitate the fishermen’s house, which is in the old building of the tuna conservation and fish marketing factory, this in the framework of the AfDB financing for the port of Maio, in which around 1.5 billion escudos will be allocated to the island’s economic activities with emphasis on fishing and salt production.
