Porto Inglês, 08 May (Inforpress) – The PAICV regional political coordinator, Edson Alves, questioned today the whereabouts of the “Maio Digital” project, as well as the construction of the Youth House project promised to young people.
Speaking to Inforpress, the political coordinator of the African Independence Party of Cabo Verde (PAICV, opposition) on the island of Maio again stated that “the youth of the island of Maio has been left behind” and stressed that, instead of holding lectures and training, the central and local authorities should create job opportunities for young people who, due to lack of options, are “leaving the island”.
“The Young people need a job for their economic, social and family stability, and even to settle down on the island. Meanwhile, we are witnessing the massive departure of our young people, both to other parts of the country and abroad”, he emphasized, referring to the Government’s promise to create forty-five well-paid jobs.
Edson Alves also stressed that last year it was much publicised “Porto Inglês, the Cape Verdean Youth Capital” but, according to that national deputy for the Maio constituency, the event held on the island did not leave any impact, let alone a visible structure for youth of Maio to be remembered for at least 10 years from now.
