Local Elections 2020: Follow-up Committee concluded that 21.53% of candidacies did not comply with the parity law

Praia, Oct 14 (Inforpress) – The Parity Law Follow-up Committee reported that 21.53% of the candidacies for local elections did not comply with the principle of parity with lists with a minimum of 40% of each sex.
This information was provided by the president of the Parity Law Follow-up Committee, Lúcia Passos, at the end of the Committee’s meeting, held this Tuesday morning with the aim to check the compliance with the Parity Law by political parties and candidacies from citizens, as well as its compliance by competent bodies in the matter.
According to Lúcia Passos, in the case of the Movement for Democracy (MpD), of the 22 lists presented and validated by the courts, only the list of the Municipal Assembly of São Domingos did not reach parity, standing at 38.7 percent (%).
The African Party of Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV), of the 22 lists presented, did not comply in five municipalities, namely, in São Miguel, which stood at 37.5%, in Santa Cruz (38%), in Santa Catarina (28.2%), Tarrafal de São Nicolau (38.5%) and Mosteiros (38.5%), although in the latter, the court considered that the list of the municipal assembly complied with parity.
