Mindelo, Sep 10 (Inforpress) – Nelson Lopes, 46, businessman, makes his debut in politics as an independent candidate running for the City Hall of (CMSV) in the local elections of October 25, the eighth in the country’s history since 1991.
The candidate, who is the seventh of the 11 children of Valentim José Lopes (Nhô Tans) and Auta Inês Rocha Lopes (Nha Autinha), was born at Rua Faroest, in Monte Sossego, and is the mentor of the independent movement “Más Soncent” through which he wants “wake up the island” and “work for the people who live in São Vicente”.
Nelson Lopes was a student at the Industrial and Commercial School of Mindelo (EICM) and considers himself an entrepreneur since he was 19 years old. 25 years ago, that is, in 1997, he created the Expoarte company in São Vicente, four years later, in 2001, he created a branch in Praia and, in 2018, he set up another branch in the United States of America (USA).
In the local elections 2016, Augusto Neves, for the MpD, won the absolute majority in the City Hall and 48.97 percent (%) of the votes, António Monteiro (UCID), who won 28.28%, and Alcides Graça (PAICV) reached only 20.75%.
