Literature: Eugénio Inocencio launches in Portugal his new book “After the Sleeves come the Avocados”

Praia, Jan 8 (Inforpress) – Economist, businessman and former journalist Eugénio Inocencio presents his newest book entitled “After the Sleeves come the Avocados” (Double Loop).

The work, an edition by Perfil Criativo – Edições, will be presented by Angolan economist and writer Jonuel Gonçalves, at the premises of the Cabo Verdean Association of Lisbon (ACV).

The 174-page book, according to a note to which Inforpress had access, is a tribute to its own slave ancestors.

“Overcoming slavery begins with the action of the slave as a slave. This overcoming is the matrix of the construction of our Creole and humanist culture. I could be made a slave myself today at this time. I would be limited in my freedom, but ontologically would be the same person. And overcoming this condition would begin immediately. It is one of the characteristics of humanity,” wrote the author.

To embody this challenge, the author said he hesitated between tragedy and drama, but eventually opted for the “Creole drama.”

The story takes place in the Cidade Velha, Santiago Island, in the eighteenth century, in 1726.
