Legislative 2021: Janira Hopffer Almada announces resignation as PAICV’s president

Praia,  Apr 19 (Inforpress) – The PAICV’s president annouces on this election night she will present in the coming days her resignation as PAICV’s president to the party bodies as a consequence of the  legislative result that dictated the victory to the MpD.

Janira Hopffer Almada revealed this position in her first press statement, around 10:45PM, after the release of the legislative provisional results.

“Politics cannot be regarded as a profession or career,” said the president of the African Independence Party of Cabo Verde (PAICV), which she said was necessary to take a “coherent and consistent” position.

The largest opposition party leader took the time to “congratulate the Cabo Verdean people for fulfilling their civic duty”, as well as the MpD and its president, Ulisses Correia e Silva, for the victory in the elections, stressing that “the people are always sovereign” and “it must always be respected” its will, “whatever it may be”.
