Lack of enforcement of laws aggravates the people with disabilities “already difficult” life situation – Responsible

Praia, Dec 3 (Inforpress) – The Federation of Persons with Disabilities Associations (FECAD) today considered the situation of people with disabilities “difficult” and aggravated by the lack of enforcement of laws, namely accessibility.

António Melo gave this reading to Inforpress, as part of the celebrations of the International Day of People with Disabilities that is celebrated today, December 3rd, under the theme “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world”.

“The Decree-law on accessibility was approved in 2011, but to date we have poor enforcement of the law, because the City Hall, which should effect it, have been doing a terrible job in the area”, he said.

To change the course of things in the chapter of accessibility, inclusion and sustainability, António Melo says that the institution intends to sign an agreement with the Cabo Verdean Association of Municipalities so that it can raise awareness among its members in order to have greater supervision, with a view to better accessibility.
