Praia, Jul 15 (Inforpress) – The president of the Institute of Cultural Heritage (IPC), Jair Fernandes, defended the continuing unity of effort to raise awareness on the local community about the importance of safeguarding and preserving heritage in Cabo Verde.
This responsible made these statements Wednesday during his speech at the closing ceremony of the seminar on the dissemination of assets registered in the Cabo Verde Indicative List at UNESCO, promoted by the Ministry of Culture, through the IPC, for two days in city of Praia.
He stressed the importance of the meeting which marks the beginning of Cabo Verde’s preparations for the presentation of the Concentration Camp of Tarrafal and Tabanka to intangible heritage by UNESCO, adding that the seminar served to promote the sharing and auscultation of the parties involved in the process and to mobilize civil society regarding the presentation of the application of assets in the UNESCO’s indicative list.
“More than raising awareness the local community about the importance of heritage preservation (…), the indicative list emerges as a space for the preparation of application dossiers to be submitted by the State,” he said.
