Praia, May 27 (Inforpress) – The President of the International Federation of Family Planning (IPPF) Kate Gilmore, who sympathized with the LGBTI community in Cabo Verde, promised on Thursday, in the City of Praia, to work with the Government to defend the LGBTI rights.
Kate GILmore made this commitment to the press, on the sidelines of the meeting she held today with the Deputy Secretary of State of the Minister of Health, Evandro Monteiro, with the purpose of being able to find out about the country’s progress and challenges in promoting the rights of adolescents and young people, men and women in access to sexual and reproductive health.
The president of IPPF said that in her visit to Cabo Verde she has talked a lot with young people, especially lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders about their rights and how much they want to contribute to the development and progress of Cabo Verde.
The official noted that sometimes they feel stigmas, discrimination and lack of opportunities for work and education, having argued that everyone, “without exception”, has human rights, the right to information, education, to participate in the life of the community, regardless of their sexual orientation, skin color and age.
