Immigration: Government opens extraordinary regularization process with some eased requirements

Praia, Sep 17 (Inforpress) – The Government announced today it will open a new period for extraordinary regularization of foreign citizens residing in Cabo Verde, this time, with fewer demands, including the criminal record of the country of origin and certificate of residence.

The draft decree-law establishing this exceptional regime, which will allow citizens from the countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) and other countries, was approved at the meeting of the Council of Ministers (CM) this Thursday in Praia.

According to CM spokesman Paulo Rocha, in a press conference, the Executive, intending a “strong adherence” of people to this extraordinary regularization, decided to eliminate some requirements previously constituted some obstacle to the process.

For example, the ruler pointed out, it is no longer required proof of renting a house, residence certificate, international vaccination card, medical certificate and criminal record of the country of origin, which is “very difficult to get”.
