ICIEG warns that women and men with disabilities are victims of violence without reporting

Praia, Dec 2 (Inforpress) – The president of ICIEG revealed today that 46% of women and men with disabilities are victims of some kind of violence, considering that “the most worrying” is the fact that more than 50% do not report this evil.

Marisa Carvalho presented these data in a statement to the press, after presiding over the opening ceremony of training for women with disabilities, an action aiming at alert them about any situations of violence existing so that they can know how to prevent and denounce the violence which has affected many women.

“This is a part of the Cabo Verdean population that is the most subject to discrimination and all kinds of violence. Women with disabilities suffer triple discrimination not only because of their gender status, because they are women and disabled, but because they also have many difficulties in their lives”, she said, indicating that difficulties go through low income and schooling.

According to the president of the Cabo Verdean Institute for Gender Equality and Equity (ICIEG), this is a specific training course that will provide the training tools on the types of violence, such as identifying them, protecting, preventing and reporting.
