Praia, Nov 20 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Infrastructure, Territorial Planning and Housing said today in Praia that Cabo Verde faces a deficit of more than 40,000 homes in need of rehabilitation, in addition to around 14,000 that need to be built.
Eunice Silva made these statements to the press at the conference held to present the housing programme, as part of the Cycle of Conferences promoted by the Government of Cape Verde, aimed at detailing the sectoral aspects included in the proposed State Budget for the financial year 2024.
“We went through the period from 2016 to 2023 and the outlook for 2024/2025, we took stock of the cooperation we have with the municipal councils, through the programme contracts, the number of houses we have managed to rehabilitate, which is in line with the qualitative deficit that is Cabo Verde’s biggest problem. So we have a deficit of more than 40,000 houses that need to be rehabilitated and we have around 14,000 to build,” said the government official.
In parallel with the rehabilitation and construction of housing, the minister stressed, there are also two fronts: the elimination of shacks on the islands of Sal and Boa Vista and the ‘Casa para Todos’ program. Currently, the latter presents 40% physical execution and 60% financial execution, added to a major intervention in the city of Praia with the “habitat regeneration program”.
