Praia, Feb 18 (Inforpress) – The Cabo Verdean senior women’s handball team has already qualified for the final round of the 24th African Nations Championship, CAN’2021, which will take place from June 10 to 21 in Yaoundé (Cameroon).
According to the president of the Cabo Verdean Handball Federation, Nelson Martins, the national women’s team won the right to be in the biggest African showcase of the sport at club level, through an invitation made by the African Handball Confederation.
The African Handball Confederation, in a note sent to the African Handball Federation and to which Inforpress had access to, considered Cabo Verde’s qualification for CAN’2021 “irrevocable”, event that it was initially scheduled for December 2020, but had to be postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nelson Martins considered this “qualification” as a sign of recognition and credibility for the work carried out by the national federation of the sport.
He underlined that in terms of handball, Cabo Verde is going through a good period of development at the national and international level, while praising the attention the sport receives from sporting leaders.
