Praia, Jun 23 (Inforpress) – The Government will invest 553 billion escudos in projects to improve water supply in the Santiago island, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment said Monday.
Speaking to Inforpress, on the sidelines of a visit he is making to the municipality of São Domingos, in the countryside of the Santiago Island, Gilberto Silva explained that this investment fits within the context of the country’s water emergency to mitigate drought.
In this sense, he informed that next week he will be in Ribeira da Barca, in Santa Catarina and Ribeira das Pratas, in Tarrafal, where drilling work has already started to supply the desalination plants to be installed in those locations.
These interventions, according to the minister, will improve water distribution and quality also in the municipalities of São Domingos and São Lourenço dos Órgãos, whose works are in the process for placing the water pipes.
