Praia, Sep 27 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, admitted Tuesday in Praia City that the Government is prepared to prepare a contingency plan if the results of this year’s agricultural campaign are “pretty bad”.
The minister gave this assurance, in statements to the press, in the margins of the public presentation of the 5th General Census of Agriculture 2015 results, which was also attended by the Minister of Finance, Olavo Correia.
“We have to wait a little longer, for example, with the recharge of groundwater, we have some hope, but the Government is prepared to draw up a contingency plan if the results of the agricultural campaign are very bad,” he said.
According to the minister, at the moment the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has a technical team on the ground, which every 10 days takes stock of the situation, but acknowledged that the latest information showed “clearly” that the results “are not very good.”
“We have poor rainfall, crops are already showing a lot of water stress, and crops in many places will be completely compromised, even in terms of pasture production,” said Gilberto Silva.
