Government plans to reduce crime by 30% with Safe City Project to be implemented in 2018

 

Praia, July 10  (Inforpress) – The Government plans to reduce crime in Cabo Verde by 30 percent (%) with the Safe City Project, whose first phase will be implemented in January 2018 in Praia.

“The project will change the way we manage and face urban security in our day-to-day life. It is a modern security concept, based on technology that puts it at the service of public safety and at the service of communities,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs Paulo Rocha.

The official, who spoke after signing the agreement with the Chinese multinational telecommunications company Huawei for the implementation of the project, which in mid-2018 will also cover the islands of Sal, Boa Vista and São Vicente, made known that the Executive is “aware” of the challenges that security poses.

In this respect, he said that this project reflects one of the aspects to approaching the phenomenon of crime, along with others in progress, in order to tackle the problem on different fronts.

The project that Paulo Rocha considered “very complex”, in this first phase is budgeted at US $ 4.5 million and Cabo Verde will have to build the Operational Command Center, which will be located at Achada Grande Frente in the facilities of the National Service of Civil Protection and Fire Brigade (SNPCB).
