Government defends that Amílcar Cabral’s figure should be our common possession

Praia, Jan 21 (Inforpress) – The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, defended that Amílcar Cabral does not belong to any political party, but should be the common Cabo Verdean nation possession.

The head of the Government was speaking in statements to the press, Monday, at the end of the ceremony of laying the wreath at the Amílcar Cabral monument, in Praia, to mark the January 20, National Heroes Day.

For Ulisses Correia e Silva, the January 20 should be celebrated by everyone, not only at the level of the institutions, but also by the citizens, because it is a date represents the history of Cabo Verdeans and the struggle for freedom and independence of the country, and this is linked to the unique figure of Amílcar Cabral. The Prime Minister, who is also president of the Movement for Democracy (MpD – ruling party), stressed that in order to overcome this resentment that January 20 belongs to a political party, the speeches of the politicians must be clear.

As the MpD has said that January 13 belongs to Cabo Verdeans and not a political party, Ulisses Correia e Silva says he wants to hear from the African Independence Party of Cabo Verde (PAICV – opposition party) the same thing about the January 20.
