Government approves program to combat drought and poor agricultural year budgeted at over 560 million escudos

Praia, Jan 22 (Inforpress) – The Government approved a program of 566,722 million escudis to combat the drought and the bad agricultural year in the country, with incidence in the municipalities of Porto Novo, in Santo Antão, and in the municipalities of Tarrafal, São Miguel and Santa Catarina, in the Santiago Island.

This program was approved at a meeting of the Council of Ministers and aims to strengthen productive capacity in the area of ​​agriculture, water mobilization and job creation, and part of this financing will be made with internal resources from the State and the remainder by financing external.

In a press conference in the City of Praia, the spokesman of the Council of Ministers, Fernando Elísio Freire, explained that the ​livestock area will be supported with 97 million escudos for the maintenance of productive capacity, 233 million escudos will be destined to water mobilization and its management, and 235 million escudos to create jobs in the municipalities most affected.

“All procedures will be as bureaucratic as possible. To this is added a set of measures that have been in the State Budget which have to do with the improvement of agricultural production capacity, the acquisition of agricultural equipment and production in the ​​livestock area”, explained the minister.
