Government approves National Strategy for Prevention and Combating Money Laundering

City of Praia, Apr. 04 (Inforpress) – The government has already approved the National Strategy for Prevention and Combating Money Laundering, Terrorism Financing, and Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction, published in the Official Gazette on Monday, the 03rd.

This information appears in the Official Gazette (OG), which states that the National Strategy for Prevention and Combating Money Laundering, Terrorism Financing, and Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction of Cape Verde (ENCAVE) serves as a roadmap for fulfilling the mission of the Inter-ministerial Commission for the coordination of public policies for the prevention and combating of the aforementioned crimes.

According to the document published on Monday, in 2019, the Mutual Evaluation Report (MER) of the Republic of Cape Verde was adopted. It was carried out by the Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), of which Cape Verde is a member state, and the MER established fundamental recommendations to improve technical compliance and the effectiveness of the devices for Money Laundering, Terrorism Financing, and Proliferation of Arms in the country.

In this sense, Cape Verde has taken the political commitment to fully comply with its obligations to the international community regarding the above-mentioned matters, committing to make every effort and to adopt the necessary measures aimed at preventing and combating these phenomena harmful to economic development and the guarantee of peace, security, and justice in the country.
