Gilberto Silva says he is “convinced” in the classification of the islands of Maio and Fogo as UNESCO world biosphere reserves

Praia, Jun 11 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, said in the city of Praia that he is “convinced” in the classification of the islands of Maio and Fogo as UNESCO world biosphere reserves.

The conviction was expressed during the conciliation meeting on the national strategy for the implementation of UNESCO’s Biosphere reserves, which was attended by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia Silva, and the mayors of Maio and Fogo, by videoconference.

“We are very convinced that these two islands have all the conditions to be world biosphere reserves and in a few months we will realize this historic event, which is obtaining the UNESCO seal”, he stated.

The official said that with this classification, Cabo Verde will have, for the first time, world biosphere reserves and will join 101 existing reserves in the world, being 28 in the African continent.
