Praia, Jun 16 (Inforpress) – The Budget Support Group (GAO), which was on a mission in Praia from June 9 to 15, recommended strengthening social protection measures and updating poverty data in Cabo Verde.
The mission, whose balance sheet took place on Wednesday, highlighted that the crisis being exacerbated by the Ukraine war and the exponential rise in food prices is an additional challenge to achieving the Government’s goal of eradicating extreme poverty by 2026.
“In this context, social protection measures should be strengthened and plans to ensure coverage in 2022 and 2023 of the most vulnerable families currently in group 1 of the Single Social Register (CSU), covering 25.000 families and 131.000 people, should be updated,” the mission’s final statement states.
The partners declared support for the Government’s efforts to mobilize resources to protect those most vulnerable to the impacts of the crisis in Ukraine.
