Football: ONAD-CV to conduct anti-doping controls during national championship games

Praia, April 18 (Inforpress) – The Cape Verde football championship, 2022/23 edition, which starts this Saturday, involving regional champions from all sports regions and the title holder, Académica do Mindelo, will be subject to anti-doping controls for athletes.

According to information obtained by Inforpress from the President of the National Anti-Doping Organization of Cape Verde (ONAD-CV), athletes in official competitions, regardless of the sport they practice, are subject to anti-doping controls “at any time and without prior notice”, whether in competitions, training or outside of them, including in their residences.

Emanuel Passos explained that the control agents will be properly identified and equipped to set up laboratories for urine collection for analysis at the stadiums that will host the national football competitions, and that the selected athletes may be accompanied by “staff” from their club, whether it be medical personnel or any other person chosen and identified.

For this, the Cape Verde Football Federation has warned that minor athletes are required to provide consent forms from parents or guardians in order to compete, as even though they are participating in senior games, like any other athlete, they will be subject to invasion of privacy, especially during random urine collection for analysis.
