Fogo: United Nations coordinator on the island to provide solidarity and learn about the work being carried out

São Filipe, 03 Oct (Inforpress) – The Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Cabo  Verde is on the island of Fogo to provide solidarity with the three municipalities and learn about the work and program that the United Nations has on the island.

On the first of three days of her visit, Patrícia Portela de Souza paid a courtesy call on the mayor of São Filipe, where she was received by the substitute mayor and councillor for Infrastructure, Euclides Fernandes, followed by a meeting attended by other councillors, namely from Environment and Sport and Culture, Tourism and Rural Development.

After the meeting, the United Nations Coordinator visited some points in the city of São Filipe that suffered greater damage as a result of the recent rains to assess the needs and partnerships for the reconstruction and recovery of the city, such as the Pedro Monteiro Cardoso square, access to beach of Nossa Senhora da Encarnação and the section that connects Cruz dos Passos to the Santa Filomena neighborhood.

A trip to the headquarters of Projecto Vitó association, a non-governmental organization linked to the environmental sector and which has worked on the conservation of sea turtles, seabirds and support in the implementation of the Biosphere Reserve on the island of Fogo, marked the first day of the visit.
