Fogo: “There is a total break up of Cabo Verde’s protected areas” – Jacob Gonzalez Solis

São Filipe, Mar 24 (Inforpress) – Professor of Zoology at the University of Barcelona Jacob Gonzalez Solis said today that in the last four years there has been a “total break up” of Cabo Verde’s protected areas and all aspects of the environment “to get worse”.

This specialist and university professor who has worked in Cabo Verde for more than ten years in collaboration with authorities linked to the environment sector in the conservation of the country’s endemic species and in their conservation, namely of Gongon and other seabirds, pointed out as an example of total break up of protected areas the Natural Park of Fogo (PNF).

When the Natural Park of Fogo was coordinated by the current national director of the Environment, it had a biologist for ecological follow-up, a sociologist, an administrator, driver and headquarters in Chã das Caldeiras and in the city of São Filipe, but since his departure to take over the National Directorate for the Environment, the PNF no longer had the director and the biologist started to perform this function, but without appointment, the sociologist was not replaced, the PNF becoming dependent on the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
