São Filipe, Sep 9 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, who ends his three-day visit to the island of Fogo, defended Wednesday, in Mosteiros, the need to deepen, develop and improve municipalism.
When asked for an evaluation of the development course of Mosteiros during its 30 years as a municipality, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, said that from the point of view of formation of local government has no doubt the creation of the municipality was an important achievement for Cabo Verde, decisive for the very implementation and extension of democracy.
According to the Head of State, the democratic values and ideals of freedom, participation, solidarity and fraternity, of participation of the populations in the resolution of their problems, demanding and claiming, find “fertile ground” in institutions of democracy and one of them is local power.
“All this is a huge gain, because the populations find a closer, easier and more appropriate interlocutor with the local authorities”, said the President, who defended the need to deepen municipalism even more.
