São Filipe, Mar 30 (Inforpress) – The book of chronicles by Gilda Barbosa, entitled “Ao Sabor dos Ventos” (At the Taste of the Winds, In English), launched on Wednesday, 29, in the city of São Filipe, is an invitation to the history of the island and the centenary city, defended professor Fausto Rosário.
In his statement during the releasing, the professor and cultural activist said that the book as a whole is not a “history lesson, but an invitation to history”, because, he explained, the author does not want to give lessons in the history of the island and the city to anyone, but that the book is an invitation to the history of the island itself.
“There is a specific chapter in the book in which the author, in a very unpretentious way, called the ‘Short story of Fogo’, but these are, after all, great stories and great historical moments of Fogo such as the battle of Pico Pires, the morbid cholera epidemic in 1855, the administrative measures that completely changed the city, seen by a person who is a privileged memory of this city”, declared the professor and cultural activist.
According to the same, one cannot forget that the author was born in 1939 and that, taking into account that memory begins to form from the age of 10, of the 100 years of the city of São Filipe, 70 were lived by Gilda Barbosa, being, therefore, before someone who has the authority to speak about it.
