Fogo: Praia de Fonte Bila in São Filipe temporarily open for sand extraction

City of Praia, 16 May. (Inforpress) – Fonte Bila beach (São Filipe) will be reopened this week for sand extraction, aiming to guarantee the dynamics of the civil construction sector in the Fogo/Brava region and ensure balanced and sustainable economic development.

In a press conference this morning, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment disclosed this news, stressing that with this position the Government intends to make the two islands follow the pace of the country’s development, avoiding any kind of speculation, and safeguarding the environmental impact.

Gilberto Silva assured that the executive had been considering the situation and that in view of the technical problems that the dredging solution had brought, even more so with the sale of the private operator’s vessel that worked in this area, he had decided to authorize the Maritime and Port Institute (IMP) to issue licenses for sand exploration on this beach.

The license, he stressed, was authorized in order to satisfy the demand for civil construction on the two islands, since, “the civil construction sector is very important for the economy”, ensuring not only the construction of infrastructure/housing, as well as it contributes enormously to employment.
