São Filipe, Nov 17 (Inforpress) – The Nossa Senhora de Fátima Parish, based in Ponta Verde, will be formally established on November 28 with the celebration of a Eucharist presided over by Cardinal Arlindo Furtado.
This parish, which arises from the division in the current parish of São Lourenço, which will have as parish priest Father Egidio Santos, who combine this function with the parish priest at Nossa Senhora de Ajuda (Mosteiros) and will be sworn in the office on November 28, according to a source from São Lourenço parish.
The decision to create the Nossa Senhora de Fatima parish came out of the Priestly Council of the Diocese of Santiago meeting, which presented as justification the fact the current parish of São Lourenço be “very extensive and dispersed”, but also because of the “dynamics the Ponta Verde community itself presents in terms of pastoral care”.
With the division, the current parish of São Lourenço begins to cover from Bernardo Gomes to Às-Hortas (lower area), passing through Lomba, Velho Manuel, Ribeira Filipe to Campanas de Cima (North high), leaving the areas ranging from Às-Hortas to Campanas de Baixo, passing through Ponta Verde (head), Galinheiro and S. Jorge (lower North) integrated in the Nossa Senhora de Fátima parish.
