Fogo: Nearly 95 percent of the 70 tonnes of fuel from the Deimos ship was removed

São Filipe, Nov 23 (Inforpress) – The national maritime authorities hope to complete the transferring all 70 tons of diesel were on board the Deimos ship, stranded since  November 13 near to the port of Vale dos Cavaleiros.

The executive member of the Maritime and Port Institute (IMP), Manuel Claudino Monteiro said that until the weekend 48 thousand and 500 liters of clean diesel had been removed which is currently on board the Monte Cara and tug vessel an additional of 17 thousand and 600 liters of contaminated diesel for portable tanks placed on land.

According to him until now, 66 thousand and 100 liters of fuel were removed from the total of 70 thousand that Deimos had on board, corresponding to around 95 percent (%), and the team resumed today the work for removing all the fuel that is on board to finish this job.

Regarding the part that is still on board, absorbent barriers were placed in the compartment of the ship’s engine room, which is flooded to collect the oily water, a job that according to the IMP member is being done by an international specialized team.
