São Filipe, Feb 17 (Inforpress) – Farmers from Chã das Caldeiras are in the middle of agricultural work, carrying out the pruning activity and cleaning and phytosanitary treatment of plants, confident in the Government’s support to overcome the constraints.
Annually the months of February and March are dedicated to pruning activity and cleaning and phytosanitary treatment of vines and other fruit trees, such as quince, peach and apple trees, a job considered hard for a few days, but without which there will be no production.
In Caldeira and throughout the viniculture area, the whole land is used for fixing of fruit trees and, from year to year, the cultivated area has increased, estimating that in 2020, given the amount of rainfall, more than 15 thousand plants fruit trees were planted by the farmers from Chã das Caldeiras, among the plants produced by the farmers as those acquired from the Ministry of Agriculture.
The head of the winery / cooperative and the Chã das Caldeiras Farmers’ Association, which has 110 members, David Gomes Monteiro, considered that the work is being carried out with dynamism, in a year with the prospect of “excellent production”, which can be equal to or higher than 2014, the year with the highest fruit production in the last three decades.
