São Filipe, Feb 18 (Inforpress) – Farmers in Fogo Island are awaiting the withdrawal of the Value Added Tax (VAT) and the Cabo Verdean public television service (RTC) fee for water consumption bills for irrigation.
This is one of the concerns expressed by farmers to the president of the Cabo Verdean and Democratic Union (UCID), António Monteiro, during the contacts established with the men of the countryside.
According to him, the Government had announced it would withdraw VAT and the RTC tax from water bills for agriculture, but this has not yet happened and is hampering some people, because adding the values of the two components it will have a weight huge on the bill and reduces farmers’ ability to earn more and live better.
In addition to the withdrawal of VAT and the RTC fee on bills, still in the water matter, António Monteiro said that in some locations people complained about the lack of water, especially in the high areas of Fogo, such as Campanas de Cima, emphasizing that it is necessary for the Government to pay attention to this situation so that these families can have a better quality of life than the one they currently have.
