São Filipe, Jun 11 (Inforpress) – The damage caused by the wind hit this week almost all the localities in the island of Fogo are yet to be quantified by the Ministry of Agriculture, but farmers consider they are high.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, through its delegation in São Filipe, told to Inforpress that following the wind farmers, especially those linked to the fruit sector, recorded “some loss” with the destruction of fruit production such as mango and cashew. For example, a farmer has counted he has lost more than four hundred pounds of mangoes due to the wind.
The delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Jaime Ledo, said the service he runs does not have the notion on the size of the damage at this time, but it will be reflected in the result of cyclical surveys on the production of each crop the Ministry of Agriculture carry out periodically.
The wind hit all the municipalities of the island, but the intensity of the wind was higher in the parish of São Lourenço, northern area of the municipality of São Filipe, area with the highest concentration of fruit trees such as mango and cashew.
