São Filipe, Jun 8 (Inforpress) – The City Hall of São Filipe does not currently have elements to ensure that dredging sand for civil construction is a harmful solution to the interests of the island and its population.
“At the moment we have no elements, there are only noises which are natural, in this process that is new,” said the mayor of São Filipe, Nuías Silva, when asked about the City Hall’s position on the dredging sand at the Island coast, stating that he is waiting for the environmental impact study on what is happening to “reassure all actors”.
“The results are important,” explained Nuías Silva, and if it comes to point out that it is possible to do dredging without major damage to the ecosystem it “has the full support of the City Hall”.
However, if it is not beneficial to the competitiveness of the island, because it can “kill the ecosystem”, which is an asset, the City Hall will join its voice to all those who defend the best interests of the municipality and the island.
