Praia, Jun 17 (Inforpress) – The internal director of rural engineering services at the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA), Alexandre Centeio, today considered that the fight against drought and desertification in Cabo Verde “is being won”.
In an interview with Inforpress as part of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought commemoration, which is celebrated today, Alexandre Centeio reported that Cabo Verde has 69.367 hectares of areas in a state of degradation, according to the program of neutralization and land degradation.
“Despite the country’s limitations, the gains are in sight for the different projects implemented and others for implementing related to soil and water conservation and regularization of the hydrological regime,” Centeio said.
These projects have contributed to positive effects on the balance of ecosystems and the restitution of the appropriate environment to life and long-term survival. In this regard, he said that the MAA intends to promote a restoration program to increase resilience and the system of adaptation to daily threats and extreme winds.
