Expresso de Ilhas launches first collection of published editorials from 2010 to 2017

Praia, Sep 26 (Inforpress) – The newspaper Expresso das Ilhas launches today in Praia City the first collection of editorials published in this weekly newspaper from 2010 to 2017 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Cabo Verde.

In a statement to Inforpress, the editorial coordination officer, Manuel Brito-Semedo, explained that the newspaper’s new management, which took office in August 2010, decided to give a new orientation to this weekly newspaper, separating the opinion part from the information part.

According to Brito Semedo, in the young democracies, newspapers are “very closely linked” to political parties, but over time, there is an evolution and, gradually, the newspapers, detach themselves from this connotation and start to serve the public.

“The Island Express from that phase (2001, when the newspaper was connoted with the opposition party) took its position of separating facts from opinions and speculation. The new direction has decided to give a new orientation and has been looking for a model of making newspaper with sections, and every week the newspaper has an opinion on a political, social and economic fact of the country, “he said.

So it came up with the idea of publishing these opinions given in print in the 2010-2013 newspaper in a 408-page book that lists 100 editorials of the 300 published in the weekly newspaper over the course of those six years.
