Praia, 07 May (Inforpress) - Alector Timas, Cabo Verde's young leader and peace ambassador and one of the 70 most influential young volunteers in Africa, wants to develop a project to benefit a thousand Cape Verdean students with scholarships to study in Brazil.

Born on the island of Fogo and living in Praia since he was a child, Alector Timas, 28, a 4th year student of Organisational Psychology at the University of Santiago (US), who is also president of the National Federation of Students and University Sports (FNEDU), told Inforpress that the idea of creating an opportunity to benefit Cape Verdean scholarship holders in Brazil came about in Angola, where he received the Servant Leadership Award in Africa.

‘There were several young African leaders who went to receive this award, so we decided to get together in order to organise and create opportunities for young people from our countries,’ he explained, noting that this time, in October last year, he signed the protocol, considered “historic” with the LEAN Education Group, to award 1,000 scholarships to Cabo Verde.

‘There are 10,000 scholarships divided by country, and Cabo Verde has been awarded 1,000 in this first phase, which may increase each year according to the dynamics of Cape Verdean students. This agreement represents a significant milestone in access to education and academic development for the country's young people,’ he commented, emphasising that the protocol provides for the award of 200 scholarships, fully funded by the LEAN Education Group and 800 scholarships subsidised by 50%.
