Praia, November 26 (Inforpress) – The Global Fund may provide a budget with 30 percent (%) less than usual to finance programs to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Cape Verde, the Minister of Health said today.

The information, released to the press by the Minister of Health, Jorge Figueiredo, on the sidelines of the opening of the awareness workshop on the National Program to Combat HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria, also reveals that Cabo Verde, compared to the rest of Africa regarding tuberculosis, is the country with the best performance.

In view of the decrease in funding, the minister also explained that this is due to recent changes and the United States' withdrawal from funding the World Health Organisation (WHO), which has affected the Global Fund.

“The workshop will serve to discuss the percentage of around 30%, but these are figures to be confirmed, but the Global Fund recognizes the importance of Green Cade in meeting the targets and we are very well positioned in relation to these three disease control areas,” he stated, explaining, on the other hand, that the Global Fund is doing everything to avoid substantially reducing the flow.
