Praia City, June 11 (Inforpress) – The head of Tabanka Salineiro, Cláudio Ramos, today advocated for increased investment in youth training and the integration of tradition into education as “essential measures” to ensure the continuity of cultural expression in Cabo Verde.

In statements to Inforpress, representing the Salineiro group, during the assessment of the 1st National Tabanka Festival, held on the island of Maio from June 5th to 7th, Cláudio Ramos considered that the appreciation of this tradition necessarily involves the preparation of a new generation of drummers, drum makers and cultural guardians.

“The IPC should support the training of young people in tabanka, especially in the area of percussion. There is a shortage of players and it is necessary to create incentives for younger people to learn and continue this tradition,” he stated.

According to that official, preserving the tabanka requires concrete safeguarding measures, including training programs and initiatives that bring young people closer to this cultural expression.
