Study aims for new ‘fairer and more sustainable’ higher education funding model

Praia, 09 Jun (Inforpress) - The Directorate General for Higher Education is promoting a comprehensive study to support the reform of the sector's funding model, seeking ‘fairer and more sustainable’ solutions.

Romualdo Correia, the director-general of Higher Education, announced the initiative at the opening of a workshop in Praia organised by the Ministry of Education, through the Directorate-General for Higher Education, on the financing model for higher education.

Romualdo Correia emphasised that financing higher education remains one of the country's biggest challenges, as pointed out in the 2023 report by the Higher Education Regulatory Agency (ARES).

Aware of the financial difficulties faced by students, he stressed that in 2018 the government launched the Extraordinary Support Programme for Students with accumulated debts to higher education institutions, which FICASE has been operating since 2019.
