São Vicente: Mindelo hosts first national congress of orthoptists to promote and enhance the profession

Mindelo, November 26 (Inforpress) – Today, the Cape Verdean Association of Orthoptists (ACO)  launched its first national congress in Mindelo, a pioneering event aimed at promoting and valuing the profession and establishing strategic partnerships with national and international entities.

The information was given to Inforpress by the association's president, Quintino da Luz, who considers the event a milestone in the history of the profession, as it is a pioneering event in the country.

In this regard, according to the same source, the intention of the event, organised under the slogan ‘Training and capacity building in orthoptics: Building the future of the profession in Cabo Verde’, is to raise awareness of the profession, which ‘is still little known and undervalued’.

Quintino da Luz cited the island of São Vicente as an example, which has only two orthoptics professionals working in the public sector, a number he considered "ridiculous" compared to the number of professionals trained locally, particularly at the University of Mindelo.
