Mindelo, May 15 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde must invest in media and digital literacy to devalue the social power of disinformation and hate speech on online platforms and to promote the inclusion of people in information and communication technologies.

This view was shared by university professor Nuno Andrade Ferreira, by the coordinator of Cabo Verde Digital, Milton Cabral, and by the representative of Woman in Tech, Vanine Spencer, regarding the panel “Access and inclusion of women in ICT, digital rights and democracy in the Digital Age”, integrated in the 5th Internet Governance Forum of Cabo Verde, held by the Multisectoral Regulatory Agency of the Economy (ARME), in São Vicente.

According to Nuno Andrade Ferreira, people are currently more aware of the “enormous complexity” associated with digital platforms and the development of these communication technologies.

On the other hand, he noted that in other countries the development of technology and these platforms have become “true spaces for public debate, a factor of illusion for institutions and an illusion of people’s trust in democracy”.
