Ribeira Grande, 7 August (Inforpress) – João Morais Regional Hospital in Ribeira Grande, Santo Antão, has created a breastfeeding area and, during World Breastfeeding Week, challenged other institutions to ensure “decent” conditions for mothers returning to work.
In statements to the press, the nutritionist Sérgio Évora explained that the Breastfeeding Corner is a space designed to welcome mothers with ‘dignity, comfort and privacy’.
“We created this space because we believe that breastfeeding is a right for both mother and baby. But supporting this process is everyone's duty: companies, institutions and society. When mothers return to work and have a place to breastfeed, everyone wins: the company, the baby and the mother herself,” he said.
Aimed at female employees with babies and mothers accompanied at the hospital, Sérgio Évora stated that the Breastfeeding Corner is in line with this year's international motto: ‘We prioritise breastfeeding by building sustainable support systems.’
