Santo Antão: Firefighters are tackling yet another fire in one of the forested areas of the city of Porto Novo

Porto Novo, 17 September (Inforpress) – The Porto Novo Volunteer Fire Brigade, in Santo Antão, tackled yet another fire on Wednesday evening in the woodland area near homes and a number of businesses in the city of Porto Novo.

The commander of the force, Balbino Gomes, told Inforpress that several fires have been reported in this area in recent days, caused by people who go into the forest for picnics.

“There have already been several fires in recent days that have required the fire brigade to intervene in a dense and very difficult-to-access woodland area,” said Balbino Gomes, who expressed his fear that this practice could lead to serious situations.

According to this official, if people continue to cook in that forest and leave the fire burning, the situation could get out of the fire brigade’s control, as it is a fairly large and very dense forest.
