Ribeira Grande, Jun 27 (Inforpress) - Today, Francisco Vezo, a driver from Santo Antão, known as Frenk, expressed concern about the ‘frequent fall’ of stones on the island's roads, a phenomenon which he said continues to cause material damage and put lives at risk
Speaking to Inforpress, Frenk said that this week his vehicle was hit by a rock, in a new episode that has once again brought up the debate about road safety on the roads that cross the island's mountainous areas.
Frenk said that his vehicle was damaged while he was transporting passengers, including pilgrims travelling to the St John the Baptist festivities in Porto Novo.
"It was around 7am, the car was full, it was carrying several pilgrims. Near the Fontes Pereira de Melo Lighthouse, before the second tunnel, a stone fell from the rock and hit the windscreen of my car, damaging it," said the driver, visibly alarmed.
