Presidential Elections 2026: Milton Paiva maintains his presidential pre-candidacy despite the MpD’s support for Joana Rosa

Mindelo, 31 August (Inforpress) – Today, presidential candidate Milton Paiva stated that he is maintaining his candidacy for the presidential elections, despite the MpD having officially announced its support for Joana Rosa.

“I maintain that presidential legitimacy rests on the citizens and the independence of the candidate," he stated in an interview with Inforpress from Mindelo.

Milton Paiva gave assurances that the MpD’s decision to support another candidate does not affect his willingness to stand in the presidential elections, emphasising that candidacies for the office of President of the Republic are “non-partisan in nature”.

According to the same source, the basis for the legitimacy of a presidential candidacy lies in the signatures of citizens; he stated that he already has the minimum number required by law and that his team is continuing to work to increase the number of signatories.
