Praia, May 23 (Inforpress) - The Movement for Democracy (MpD-opposition) on Thursday criticised the management of the Praia municipality, accusing it of irregularities, while the PAICV-ruling highlights the 84% budget execution, debt reduction and positive balance as proof of good management.
During the second ordinary session of the Praia Municipal Assembly for the 2024/2028 term, where the 2024 management account was scrutinised, the African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV) classified the management as ‘positive and effective’, while the MpD considered it ‘negative’.
Esmael Teixeira, spokesman for the MpD, accused the current mayor, Francisco Carvalho, of violating basic principles of democracy, such as transparency and accountability.
According to him, the analysis of the management account reveals inconsistencies in the data presented, and he also emphasised the existence of withholdings from employees' salaries without the corresponding payment to the Social Security (INPS) and the finances.
