Praia: City Council calls for citizen awareness in rubbish management while traders denounce health problems (c/audio)

Praia, Jul 1 (Inforpress) - Waste management in the city of Praia is facing growing challenges, affecting public health and local commerce, but the city council has appealed to citizen awareness and promised to step up collection.

While residents and shopkeepers are demanding urgent solutions, Praia City Council has appealed for the population's co-operation and promised to reinforce the means of collection

The issue was put to the Praia City Council councillor, Carlos Dias, who praised the cleaning and awareness campaign carried out this Saturday by the health authorities in the Fonton area, as part of the prevention of malaria and other diseases associated with the rainy season.

Asked about the rubbish situation in some of the capital's neighbourhoods, the councillor acknowledged that there are structural challenges, such as the obsolescence of means of transport, but also pointed to a lack of civic awareness as one of the main causes of the situation.
