Praia, Dec 04 (Inforpress) – Former President Pedro Pires said today that receiving Angola’s Medal of Honour is a “gratifying gesture,” recalling his close engagement with the country’s liberation struggle since the late 1950s.
Pires spoke during the award ceremony presided over by Angola’s ambassador to Cape Verde, Agostinho Tavares Silva Neto.
The distinction follows the 8th honours ceremony held on 06 November in Luanda, during which Angolan President João Lourenço decorated former Cape Verdean presidents Aristides Pereira and Pedro Pires with the highest state honour for their contributions to the liberation movement.
Pires stressed that Angola’s struggle held “great importance” for him and that he followed the entire process leading to national liberation.
