Praia, Feb 20 (Inforpress) – Former President of the Republic Pedro Pires advocated this Thursday in Praia for the rigorous preservation of historical truth regarding the liberation struggle, warning against “revisionist and mystifying variants” that seek to whitewash colonialism and relativize the role of the fighters.
At the launch ceremony of his book “From Guerrilla Fighter to Statesman”, promoted by the Pedro Pires Institute for Leadership, the commander explained that the choice of date symbolizes “a call for truth” and an invitation to value the past, consolidate the present and responsibly prepare the future.
“I have been insisting on the need to seek to discover and preserve historical truth,” he stated, stressing that colonial ideology denied history to colonized peoples and sought to deprive them of historical initiative.
Throughout his address, Pedro Pires highlighted the difference between national liberation and decolonization, considering that the former constitutes an intrinsic initiative of the colonized people, whereas the latter may represent “a trapped donation by the former colonizer.”
