Parliament: UCID calls for better conditions for São Vicente and elimination of “persistent inequalities”

Praia, Apr 24 (Inforpress) – Deputy António Monteiro, elected on the lists of the Independent Democratic Union of Cabo Verde (UCID, opposition), for the São Vicente constituency, said today in parliament that the island needs better conditions to eliminate “persistent inequalities”.

The parliamentarian considered that Mindelo is a city with a “unique history and intense cultural, social, economic and political vitality”, however it is at a “crucial crossroads” between the legacy of the past and the growing demands of the future.

António Monteiro said that the island needs “inclusive and sustainable” socioeconomic development, to the point of transforming its historical dynamism into a “true” economic force, ensuring that prosperity is effectively shared by all.

“We expect to generate opportunities for decent employment, empower youth and strengthen social programs that combat social exclusion and urban poverty,” said the deputy on the last day of this month’s parliamentary session.
